Distance & Velocity Time Graphs

Velocity Time Graphs

  • Gradient = Acceleration
  • Flat Section = Steady Speed
  • Steeper = the greater the acceleration
  • Uphill = acceleration; Downhill = deceleration
  • Area underneath a section = distance travelled
  • Curve = changing acceleration

Distance Time Graphs

  • Gradient = constant speed
  • Flat sections = stopped
  • Steeper = faster
  • Downhill = back towards its starting point
  • Curves = acceleration or deceleration / change in speed
NB - if stuck and can't remember these rules then use your knowledge of speed = distance/time to work out what you can from the graph. Think!
